Sugarhouse Open house in VT

This weekend was maple sugarhouse open house for the entire state of VT. We took a Sunday drive to a 210 year old farm w/ a sugarhouse - enjoyed a tour. Learned a lot! Seemed like such a nice family - & a simple way of life this city girl would love the chance to try sometime! It was an overcast & rainy day - perfect for a long drive, a book, a nap & some fun w/ family - which is what we did. Am anxious try some new recipes we got & the goodies we bought ... pure cider jelly, cinnamon cider syrup (blend of boiled cider & pure maple syrup w/ a cinnamon stick inside each bottle!) & pure maple syrup!

If your mouth is watering...you can order some here: www.woodscidermill.com

p.s. thank you honey - for driving the whole time & a wonderful/fun/restful day!!

sounds like a great day. We call them making a memory day. Have you tried Parkers Maple Barn in Mason NH? Also,The Scoth Farm in Pepperell -although that last one is not a maple house but a quaint place for tea and scones or a liverwurst sandwich with green beans :)

We went to watch sugar cane syrup being made. It was a friend of a friend and we just watched them for a little bit. It smelled very good and from your pictures, the process looks similar.

When you were telling me your plans yesterday, it brought back childhood memories too. I would ride my bike to the farm down the street (1 mile or so) and off into the woods to the sugarhouse. My siblings or friends too. We would just watch them and get to help too. sometimes even taking the tractor around to help collect sap. The smell and the warmth all come back!
