Wasn't sure if it was going to happen...

I wasn't sure if it was going to happen this time around bc I've been enjoying this summer so much, but - I'm actually/finally/thankfully(!), getting anxious (in a good way!) for school to start again & Strike (Homeschooled - Gr. 7) is too. Playmaker is on the fence (Sophomore - Public High School). Torn. Not quite ready - but she has a couple more weeks before she needs to be.

Yesterday I put the finishing touches on our home education plan for Strike & will pop it in the mail today. She helped choose her curriculum for this yr which is, in part, why I think she's excited.

I'm excited about the year at hand bc I stand to learn even more than usual alongside Strike. In addition to the core subjects, she's taking Latin & French & bc I've never have taken either, I'll need to plow through it w/ her. French became the foreign language of choice when we decided to try to take the "field trip of a lifetime" & go to Senegal, Africa in the spring!! I'm hoping we can work it out so Playmaker can go too (She traveled to Europe when she was homeschooled & WOW !- She gained a different perspective of the world beyond our borders (& what we take for granted - freedoms, luxuries, etc.) that she could not have been given any other way. I can't even imagine all that going to a third world country will teach us!

With the new school year on my mind, I've added some educational gadgets to my blog. Check 'em out :) Since I know there will be days when I lack motivation/inspiration, I added some of that too :) I didn't find a widget I like for art - so I picked a nature one instead since I believe nature is the inspiration of all "good" art :)

That's about all I have for now - so I'll close this post w/ some other people's thoughts ("deep tweets" :) on education that I tend to agree w/.

The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.
Robert M. Hutchin

Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.

Ooooo...I'm glad you're adding Latin to your curriculum. I wish my children had had that in school. I did, and I think it helps with EvErYthing! I'll be thinking about (and especially praying for) Playmaker as she makes her way through public school. She has the firm footing of the strong foundation you have helped to build under her...This she will have for the rest of her life!:)

Love all of your education quotes, but especially the one by Robert Hutchin...My grandmother was an educator and always said that if we have taught a person HOW to learn things for himself and given them the desire to do so, then we have done our job!:)

Hi Mug...I actually just removed one of those quotes bc I decided I wasn't quite sure I totally agreed w/ it afterall :) But I agree w/ you completely about teaching a person how to learn & giving them the desire. It's the second part that seems the most challenging at times - but I think if the teacher realizes that even though she's the teacher, she still has more to learn & assuming he/she still has the desire to learn more, that desire can be contagious :)

How true, MyStory!

aHHH! I see you removed the first quote....I wasn't sure about that one, either.
