AVATAR

In general I am not too fond of the Sci Fi or Fantasy genres...but - as this beautiful (tho' sad/tragic to a similar extent) story unfolded in sync w/ splendid imagery & amazing 3D effects that somehow managed to draw me in to the same degree that they "popped out", I was captivated(!) as I have never been before by a movie! I sat there thinking "WOW...someone else 'sees things' in much the same way I do, except they are MUCH MORE creative in how they express it!" At the end of 2 1/2 hours, I STILL wasn't ready for it to end. There is so much more I could say ... but I'll refrain from it because I believe I was at an advantage knowing very little about the movie before experiencing ("viewing" is not the right word here) it for myself.

I would be remiss tho' if I didn't point out that The LORD'S name was used disrespectfully many times .... in casual, angry & just downright disrespectful ways which I found to be very distracting - & detracting since I personally find that to be offensive.

Mmmm. I have not gotten into this "Avatar" thing either. So maybe I will see it now! However, I think I will find THE LORD'S name abuse to be a little dostracting as well. GOod to know that's in there.

Hi Lupine. It's really probably used no more than in many other movies ... My daughter & I were talking about it this afternoon ... & it could be that they did it to help make a point regarding the differences between the two worlds in the movie...one/ours which has little to no respect for much of anything & the other that has a tremendous amount of respect for life/all living things ... hard to explain - but if you do go see it, I'd be interested to hear what you think.

While I was watching this movie and the issue of the tree (of life) appeared I was thinking of the Bible verse "Have no false idols", and when they began to bow down to the tree I was posative that this movie was not centered around my beliefs. On the other hand I do believe that this is one of the best movies I have ever seen, because I too saw it in imax 3D. It was amazing and I would recomend it for anyone to watch.

Hi "Smiley"

Hmmm - interesting. I didn't see it that way. I didn't get the sense that they were worshiping creation (the tree) but that the tree was where they met to worship ... in much the same way that we go to church. I know I often feel "closest to" God when I am in the midst of His creation - exploring & reveling in the wonder of it all :)

I must say, it's intriguing(!) to me ... how many who saw the same movie, saw it SO differently. I find that fascinating.

Thanks for sharing how you saw it, here.

One more thing, Smiley,....(your comment was obviously tho't provoking! :) I think that's one, if not THE big difference between what we believe & what many others believe. That being, WHO (not "what") we worship. We worship THE CREATOR!/God .... but many worship various (perishable!) aspects of His creation/nature instead .... or things (idols) made from things He created....wood, stone/rocks, etc...

That is very interesting how we see the same things but we see them differently in the mental sense. But let the truth be known that i will deffinatly be buying it on DVD :]
